SNAPSHOT:

Olivia Morris is a natural contested ball-winner who thrives on the inside of the contest and brings a high level of defensive pressure. Though not the most polished or eye-catching player, Morris is a key cog in any midfield she plays in, and is not afraid to get her hands dirty or set up her teammates.

STRENGTHS:

+ Contested ball
+ Work rate
+ Defensive pressure
+ Endurance
+ Vertical leap

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Speed
- Outside game

Boasting an outstanding contested game, Morris is in many ways your stereotypical inside midfielder. She thrives on the contest, has a high work rate and outstanding endurance, and backs up her capable ball-winning skills with immense defensive pressure as well. A member of the Sydney Swans Academy, Morris is a fantastic inside player, and will be looking to add outside elements to her game.

Every team needs a player who is willing to put their body on the line and get their hands to it first, and that is certainly Morris' bread and butter. She is a first possession winner and ground ball specialist who may not always be a high production winner, but plays her role each and every game.

For the Allies at the national carnival, Morris averaged 10.7 disposals and 6.0 tackles, and though heavily rotated with a stack of other midfielders, the New South Wales onballer held her own. She was the primary ball-winner alongside Asha Turner Funk for the Swans Academy earlier in the season, averaging 21.3 disposals with her 6.3 tackles per game, as well as 4.0 inside 50s.

From an athletic standpoint, Morris is more of an endurance athlete rather than an explosive one. In comparing to the rest of the draft clash, the Swans Academy midfielder is rated average in the 20m but elite in endurance, ranking in the top three per cent nationwide during preseason. She also has an elite vertical jump which had her in the same top three per cent, which is not always the case for an inside midfielder.

That area, though not always able to be on show given her role, is something clubs may look at as a way to develop her for the future. Morris stands at 164cm, but her traits could lend themselves to her being a defensive forward as well, given her capacity to fly for the ball, but also be incredibly competitive be it in the air or at ground level.

Morris worked hard at he championships to win her fair share of outside ball, and though she is that natural inside midfielder, provided an insight into her work rate across the ground. Going forward, Morris could develop into another role or add a few more elements to her game, though ultimately given her traits, a contested ball-winning position is her go.

SUMMARY:

Olivia Morris is one of the more consistent, contested ball-winners in the AFLW Draft crop, and has been a homegrown talent within the Swans Academy. She will provide a four quarter effort each and every week, and while there are others who are more potent on the outside, Morris is a readymade player who will draw interest from the middle of the draft onwards.
