One of the Northern Territory's best prospects this year is Waylon Davey-Motlop, who has footballing royalty flowing through his veins. He's the nephew of Alwyn and Aaron Davey on one side of his family, and the cousin of current Carlton player Jesse Motlop on the other.

Davey-Motlop boards at Xavier College in Victoria and has been turning out for the Oakleigh Chargers at Coates Talent League level. There, he produced a couple of masterclasses in front of goal this season, including a five-goal haul in the Chargers' heated Wildcard Round win over Calder.

That game is where the crafty small's season ended, after he was suspended for a high hit on Cannons captain Damon Hollow. Davey-Motlop enjoys getting stuck into the contest and plays on the edge at times, which can often bring him into the game. It makes his goals all the more meaningful, too.

Speaking of, his finishing ability is absurdly good. He can slot the ball home with checksides, snaps, dribbles or set shots, splitting the big sticks from a variety of angles and situations. He is hard to tie down in one-on-one situations and despite his small stature, has the frame to holds his own physically.

Davey draws comparisons to former Essendon forward Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti, and similarly has a ways to go when it comes to building the tank required to succeed at AFL level. If he can meet those standards and continue to evolve his game, the talent is certainly there.
