Perth back on winning horse after dominating Sixers

PERTH Scorchers are back on the WBBL09 winners list after a 36-run win over the Sydney Sixers last night.

Perth batted first and went on to make 8/166 from its 20 overs. Openers Chloe Piparo and Beth Mooney made a solid start to the Scorchers’ innings, putting on a 53 run opening stance before Piparo was dismissed.

The rest of the innings can be summed up by looking at the totals each batter made. Plenty of players got solid enough starts, but no one made a huge score. Top scorer for the Scorchers was actually Alana King with 33 not out.

Meanwhile for the Sixers Ash Gardner topped the wicket taking tally with three wickets, while Linsey Smith took two wickets and Lauren Cheatle, Maitlin Brown and Kate Peterson all picked up one each.

The Sixers made a similarly strong start to their batting innings, but that is when things started to fall apart for them. They had a slight recover midway through the innings, but once Chloe Tryon was dismissed, they lost 5/34 to almost be all bowled out. They ultimately got to bat out the full 20 overs but got nowhere near the total.

Ellyse Perry was by far the star with the bat for the Sixers, making 59. Apart from her though, only three other batters made a double figure score, and they were all in the teens.

On the flipside of the equation Amy Edgar topped the bowling tally for the home side, taking 4/19 from her four overs. King and captain Sophie Devine took two wickets each, while Chloe Ainsworth picked up one.

Both of these sides have only a couple of days to wait before it is back in action, with both back in action on Friday. Perth are hosting the Renegades, while the Sixers are off to Adelaide to take on the Strikers.
