Scorpions flip script to down Fire

SOUTH Australia has picked up a crucial win in the race for the WNCL finals, downing Queensland by four wickets and bouncing back from its loss to the Fire a mere two days prior.

Queensland made 9/205 from its 50 overs, before the Scorpions reached the target with just over nine overs spare.

The Fire got off to a less than ideal start, with the first wicket falling in the third over with only six runs on the board.

Things began to get back on track as Sianna Ginger and Mikayla Hinkley put on an 83-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Hinkley was the pick of the Queensland batters with 50, while Ginger managed 37. Laura Harris (28) was the only other Fire batter to pass 20.

Meanwhile for South Australia, Jemma Barsby was chief destroyer with the ball, taking three wickets, while Amanda-Jade Wellington snared two.

Things started slowly for South Australia in reply, but they soon picked up; with partnerships between Josie Dooley and Madeline Penna, and Dooley and Jemma Barsby adding 54 and 80 runs respectively.

This did not leave much more for the Scorpions to do, with the target ultimately reached with 55 balls to spare.

Dooley was the star with the bat for South Australia, smashing 13 fours on her way to 86.

On the flipside, Charli Knott and Grace Parsons were the stars for Queensland with ball in hand, picking up two wickets each.
