Perry pounds Meteors to make it 2/2 for Vics

VICTORIA has made it two from two against the ACT in the WNCL, after defeating the Meteors by 92 runs yesterday.

After Victoria made 5/354 from 50 overs, it then restricted the Meteors to 9/262.

The Victorian innings got off to a disastrous start though, losing the first wicket on the first ball and the second only 31 runs later.

However, things turned around when Ellyse Perry and Tess Flintoff got to work, with the pair putting on a 135 run partnership for the third wicket.

The runs did not stop coming when Nicole Faltum replaced Flintoff at the crease, as she and Perry combined for a 132 fourth wicket partnership.

Perry had a monstrous day at the crease, smashing 18 fours and five sixes on her way to 145. She was ably assisted by a 55 from Faltum and a 54 from Flintoff.

Victoria’s massive score was helped along by some bad bowling from the Meteors, who conceded 29 wides in a total extras tally for 35.

Angelina Genford, Carly Leeson and Grace Dignam were the wicket takers for the Meteors, taking one wicket each. Dignam also picked up a run out, as did Katie Mack.

As the wickets began to tumble in the Meteor innings, the one stable force was Mack. She gave Perry’s big innings a good run for its money as she tried to keep the Meteors in the match.

However unfortunately no one else could match her and score at her pace, with the next highest score being Leeson’s 25, which brought the Meteors undone.

Mack went on to make 140 not out, smashing 16 fours on her way to that final tally.

Meanwhile for the hosts, the wicket taking duties were shared evenly, with Sophie Molineux, Sophie Day and Milly Illingworth all picking up two wickets each. Perry and Georgia Prestwidge also picked up a wicket each.
