2023 ANZ Premiership | Round 6 preview: Comp reaches halfway point

IT is Round 6 of the 2023 ANZ Premiership season, and with everyone having now played six matches it is finally possible to see where everyone truly sits.

As things stand at the moment, the Mystics are the team to beat with only one loss to their name, but the second placed Stars have a better goal difference and percentage than them, and the one loss the Mystics have had this season was to the currently fourth placed Magic. This just shows how close and competitive this season truly is and has the potential to be even be more of.

In terms of this weekend’s fixtures, it is a big weekend for both the Magic and Stars, who have to face the Mystics and Pulse respectively on Saturday before facing each other on Monday. Both teams are currently in the top four, but will be keen to bank as many wins as possible to further entrench themselves up the top end of the ladder. One side more desperate for the win this weekend is the Pulse, who currently sit in fifth and will be desperate to bank some more wins and get their title defence back on track.

In the other match, it is the Tactix taking on the Steel on Easter Sunday. There is plenty to gain for both these sides in this match if they emerge victorious. Both sides are coming off frustrating losses last week, and will be keen to bounce back. The Steel in particular will be keen to pinch the upset win because if they do not, they can begin to kiss any finals dreams goodbye.
