2023 ANZ Premiership Team of the Week – Round 3
IT is Wednesday, which does mean it is time once again for another ANZ Premiership Team of the Week.
After another weekend full of excellent performances, who stood out enough to make this week’s team?
GS – Maia Wilson (Stars)
Another great game in front of the ring from the Stars’ goal shooter has seen Wilson make Team of the Week once again. This week against the Pulse she finished with 41 goals from 45 attempts, as well as two assists, three feeds and a rebound.
GA – Te Paea Selby-Rickit (Tactix)
Although Selby-Rickit’s shooting figures were not as high as other contenders, she influenced the game in her side’s win over the Steel in other ways. She finished with 15 goals from 18 attempts, as well as 16 assists, 18 feeds, two deflections and three rebounds.
WA – Simmon Wilbore (Magic)
As the Magic completed the ultimate comeback to defeat the Mystics, Wilbore was in the thick of the action. She finished the match with a whopping 50 feeds, as well as 22 assists and a deflection.
C – Maddy Gordon (Pulse)
Another great game from the Pulse’s star midcourter saw Gordon make Team of the Week once again. Although her side lost to the Stars she still finished with 36 feeds, 21 assists, three deflections and a gain.
WD – Karin Burger (Tactix)
Although she only played one quarter in Wing Defence, Burger had a game on the weekend that was too strong to leave out of the starting side. She finished with five gains, five intercepts and four deflections as her side beat the Steel.
GD – Phoenix Karaka (Mystics)
Despite her side going down to the Magic, Karaka still had a strong game and finished with five gains, three rebounds, two intercepts and a deflection.
GK – Kelly Jury (Pulse)
Another strong game from Jury, which saw her finish with six gains, six deflections, three rebounds and an intercept, has seen her make our Team of the Week.
Bench
Ameliaranne Ekenasio (Magic)
Ekenasio has a varied game on the weekend, which saw her take on both shooter roles yet still have quite the influence. She finished with 29 goals from 34 attempts, as well as six assists, 12 feeds, one deflection and a rebound.
Gina Crampton (Stars)
Crampton’s great start to 2023 continued on the weekend, finishing with 49 feeds and 33 assists as her side beat the Pulse.
Erena Mikaere (Magic)
Another Magic star to make the team this week, Mikaere had a superb game on the weekend, finishing with five gains, five intercepts and two deflections.
