Falcons flex muscles but buck trend of the round

THE City West Falcons have continued on their merry winning ways of the VNL season, this time downing the Casey Demons 87 goals to 68.

The second quarter was where divide really started to open, as the Falcons really showed their true class.

Although proceedings started as even as they could get, the Falcons were the ones to take the first lead thanks to a stellar intercept of the centre pass by Montana Holmes.

Holmes and Sophie Hanrahan continued to pick up the intercepts and the Falcons were rewarded on the scoreboard as their lead continued to grow.

Casey on the other hand were unable to get anywhere near a many intercepts as the Falcons could, and as such found themselves 10 goals down at the first change.

Things took a turn for the Falcons at quarter time though, with Maggie Lind forced off the court under an injury cloud.

It did not seem to affect the Falcons at all though, who just grew and grew with confidence as the quarter progressed. They continued to be a level above the Demons in the way they played the match, and as such their lead just grew and grew. The Demons did make some changes towards the back end of the quarter, and they took a bit off the deficit, but were still 13 goals down at half time.

However, that Demon resistance meant little in the long run. They did tie the third quarter, but lost the final quarter by four goals to see the Falcons come away with another big win.

The Falcons’ win was against the trend however. The Southern Saints were the only other team to win by more than 10 goals, with the Express, Strikers and Cougars each winning by no more than six goals.
