PREVIEW | Fast 5 World Series

THE INTERNATIONAL netball season heads for a more of a light hearted turn this weekend with the annual Fast 5 World Series taking place across the ditch in New Zealand.

For the next two days, six women’s teams and three mens teams from around the world will descend on Christchurch for a very different version of netball.

While there are a number of different rules that differ from normal netball regarding things like shooting, the basic premise of Fast 5 Netball is essentially the same as normal netball, except there is no wing attack or wing defence on the court.

Fast 5 is the perfect opportunity for the up and coming stars of world netball to really make their mark, with most of the women’s teams not sending their recognisable big stars.

The reigning champion in the women’s side of the draw is Australia, but it will be looking to defend its title this year with a very different squad this time around, given only three of last year’s squad coming back.

In the men’s division, the reigning champion is New Zealand and they will be looking to repeat history and ensure neither Australia nor South Africa can take the title off them.
