Rookie Me Central’s Collaborative 2022 AFL Women’s Top 50 Countdown: #10 Anne Hatchard

IN a new exciting collaborative countdown, Rookie Me Central has teamed up with other independent media organisations to bring a 2022 AFL Women’s Top 50 Countdown. Every weekday from now until December 17, a new player will be named starting from 50th down to 1st, stemming from a combined eight Top 50 submissions. Among those who submitted Top 50s include Siren Sport‘s Gemma Bastiani, Women’s Australian Rules Football (WARF) Radio‘s Peter Holden, and a combined Outer Sanctum team’s Top 50.

Today we continue our countdown with number 11, Adelaide Women’s Anne Hatchard.

The quiet assassin type, Hatchard is certainly one of those players that lets her actions speak louder then her words. Hatchard just goes about her business and does not take the spotlight and media attention that many of her more well known teammates get. She is a star for the Crows, regularly racking up the disposals and playing a crucial role.

After having a solid first two seasons in the AFLW in the backline, she moved to the midfield in 2019 and had a breakout year. This resulted in an All-Australian selection.

Hatchard continued this great form in 2020, earning All-Australian honours again and winning the Crows best and fairest. She also broke the disposals record in Round 1, racking up 35 disposals against Brisbane. She is also a two time premiership player with the Crows, having been apart of the Crows 2017 and 2019 flags.

Hatchard had yet another great season in 2021, which saw her help get her side to yet another Grand Final. She has averaged 16.8 disposals over her career, but in 2021 her average disposal count was up at 20.5. This included a season record of 27 disposals in the Preliminary Final.

Like many of her peers up this end of the countdown, everyone who submitted a top 50 included Hatchard in their list. She was ranked anywhere from fourth to 25th. With most ranking her in the mid to high teens, she finds herself finishing in 10th place in the countdown.

Siren Sport’s Gemma Bastiani ranked Hatchard 11th overall and had this to say about her:

“Has possibly been the player to evolve the most between 2017 and now. “Well known as an inside midfielder, which earned her an All-Australian berth in 2019, Hatchard now works ore on the outside to complement her teammates.”
