2022 NAB League Boys Player of the Week: Round 5
TASMANIA Devils midfielder-forward Seth Campbell is our NAB League Player of the Week for Round 5. The crafty small put up remarkable numbers in his side’s crushing 115-point win over the Northern Territory Thunder, finishing with 32 disposals, 11 marks, nine inside 50s and six goals to take full advantage of the Devils’ dominance.
Campbell’s latest performance continues what has been a terrific run of form for the top-ager, who helped his side respond to a 72-point thrashing at the hands of Sandringham the week prior. He has found the big sticks in each of his four NAB League games this season, including a pair of two-goal hauls in Tasmania’s opening outings.
His final figures on Sunday far exceeded his previous best efforts in 2022 though, bringing his season averages up to 22 disposals, six marks, five inside 50s and nearly three goals per game. At 181cm, he takes the game on with great speed and sharp finishing skills at full tilt, making him a dangerous operator on the attack from midfield.
During preseason, Campbell was identified by Devils coach Jeromey Webberley as one who would likely push for Allies selection, and he will almost certainly be in the frame should he keep up his current form. He is used to representative honours too, having donned the famous map in last year’s Under 17 National Championships.
Campbell is the first Tasmanian to earn a Player of the Week nod in 2022, with Metro prospects dominating across the first five rounds. He becomes the fourth top-ager (2004-born) to do so, and looks like having a busy year ahead en route to stamping his claims as an AFL Draft candidate.
He won the poll this week ahead of a couple fellow six-goal heroes in Brayden George (Murray Bushrangers) and Zane Duursma (Gippsland Power), garnering nearly two-thirds of the votes. Next, Campbell and his Devils will host the Western Jets at University of Tasmania Stadium in a standalone Round 6 fixture.
