First five SANFLW rounds released for 2023
THE SANFL has released fixtures for Rounds 1-5 of the 2023 Women’s season, which is set to kick off on Friday February 17. Though a grand final rematch is not yet in store, reigning premier North Adelaide gets things underway against Norwood in their season opener under lights at The Parade.
Three games at different venues follow on Saturday, marking a bumper beginning to the state league competition. In a similar vein, all four games in Rounds 2 and 5 will be played on the same day (Saturday), while there are three double-headers scattered across the first handful of rounds.
Along with two ‘Super Saturdays’, First Nations Round is a showcase feature of the early fixture. Marked for Round 4, it follows on from the inaugural edition in 2022 and will see games spread from Friday March 17 to Sunday March 19.
The grandest occasion of them all, the SANFLW Grand Final, will be played on June 11 and has been locked in for telecast on Channel 7 and 7Plus for the second consecutive year. All SANFLW games will also be available to watch via the SANFL Now subscription.
Upon being finalised and released, the remaining fixtures are set to be announced in the New Year. The complete SANFL schedule will also come to light soon, with the men’s League season poised to begin on the weekend of March 31. Two rounds will be played before the AFL’s Gather Round enacts a league-wide bye from April 13-16.
Women’s Development League fixtures will largely coincide with their senior equivalents, mostly as curtain-raisers throughout the season. A host of fresh and familiar AFLW stars are confirmed to hit the state league too, including 2022 Rising Star, Hannah Ewings.
