2023 Coates Talent League Girls Team of the Week: Round 11
FOUR teams had big wins and were among five victors who all recorded three players in our Coates Talent League Girls Team of the Week for Round 11. The six winners all had multiple representatives, with Calder Cannons the only losing side to have two, while the remaining five teams had one player each in the 24-strong squad.
The Round 11 captain is Oakleigh Chargers goalsneak Amelie Gladman who slammed home 9.3 in her side’s huge win over Bendigo Pioneers, easily earning our Player of the Week. She was joined in the side by teammates, Sienna Tallariti and Chloe Bown.
Geelong Falcons also experienced a big victory and had three representatives, with bottom-age jet Sara Howley leading the charge once again, while Chantal Mason booted six goals up forward. Sophie Mahar was the third Falcons’ representative.
Dandenong Stingrays took home the four points from their trip to Ballarat, and captain Jemma Ramsdale holds down the fort at full-back. Up the other end, Zoe Besanko booted four goals and slotted into full-forward, while bottom-age ruck Elli Symonds was named in that role again.
Western Jets won their first game of the season and it was no surprise to see bottom-age stars Sierra Grieves and Lou-Lou Field performing strongly. Thy were joined in the side by forward/midfielder Tamara Henry who with Grieves, was a prime mover in attack.
Eastern Ranges were the other winning side to record three players in the Team of the Week. Usual suspects Laura Stone and Alyssia Pisano were in there for another round, while bottom-ager Grace Belloni also made it in.
Sandringham Dragons won a tight tussle with Gippsland Power, and had the two representatives. Isabel Bacon was named on a wing in this side, while Daisy Flockart earned a spot on the bench. Power tall Ash Centra slotted into centre half-back.
From a losing team perspective, Calder Cannons had two talents in the side, with double bottom-ager Chloe Baker-West seamlessly returning for her first game of 2023 and was named on the half-back flank, while top-ager Sarah Grunden stepped up to be one of the half-forwards.
That left the four remaining losing sides with single representatives, including two on-field in Bendigo Pioneers’ Lucia Painter and GWV Rebels’ Jess Rentsch, while Murray Bushrangers’ Destiny Dodd and Tasmania Devils’ Meg Harrison are on the bench.
The three emergencies for Round 11 are double bottom-age pair Alex McBride-Loane (Western Jets) and Tayla McMillan (Eastern Ranges), as well as Gippsland Power bottom-age midfielder/forward Jasmine Sowden.
