State League Teams: Tasmania vs Queensland

FOR the first time in more than a decade, Tasmania and Queensland will go head-to-head in a double-header of state representative action tomorrow. The two states have not played since the global pandemic, with the two states to renew hostilities against each other at North Hobart Oval.

The sides have a mix of ex-AFL and AFLW talent joining some rising stars of the competition, with a host of Under 23 players identified as ones to watch by club recruiters. The women’s state game will take place at 11:55am local time, with the men’s match to follow at 2:15. The two matches are apart of a triple-header at the venue, with the Tasmania Devils’ boys team taking on Northern Knights from 9:20am.

Among the players to watch in the women’s game are AFLW experienced midfielders in Claire Ransom (Tasmania) and Carly Remmos (Queensland), with University of Queensland’s Ava Seton and Southport’s Selina Priest also donning the maroon.

Queensland will be favourites in the women’s clash given the additional AFLW experience, as well as a host of players who have been on the fringes of getting an AFLW chance in Lucy Schneider, Steph O’Brien and Mikayla Martin. Tasmania still has plenty of talent such as promising developing types in Priscilla Odwogo, Amy Bissett and Chelsea Thomas.

For the men’s match, Tasmanians Kieran Lovell, Josh McGuinness and Luke Russell are a trio of talents who have had that AFL experience, while premiership player Jacob Townsend (Queensland) is the most experienced AFL player on the ground. He is joined by another ex-Tiger in Will Martyn. Some young talents include Bruce Reville and Riley Bowman for the Maroons, and Brandon Leary for Tasmania.
