Vic Country guns keep RMC Medal race alive

COUNTRY-BASED stars Zane Duursma and George Stevens have kept the Rookie Me Central Medal race alive with respective five-vote performances in Round 14. The pair are among just four players who have a mathematical chance of catching up runaway leader, Colby McKercher.

With just three Talent League rounds left to play, McKercher (35 votes) is clear of Duursma and Josh Smillie (26 each) in equal-second, while Stevens (22) and Jagga Smith (20) can also catch the leader, but Darcy Wilson (23) and Logan Morris (21) are out of the race given their sides both have a bye to come.

There are a couple of new entrants to the top 10, both again from Country regions. Dandenong bottom-ager Harvey Langford now leads the Stingrays’ count on 17 votes, coming in at equal-ninth alongside GWV Rebels midfielder-forward Lachlan Charleson.

Outside of that, there remains a significant group of players vying for the final top 10 spots. Four players – including pick one fancy Harley Reid – are tied on 16 votes, while a handful have posted 15, and five more boast 14.

Teams will return to relative full strength in the final two home-and-away rounds, for the run in to Wildcard Round and finals. Last year, eventual first pick Aaron Cadman took out the inaugural award with a strong haul of 39 votes.
