WAFLW 24 to Watch in 2024: Taya Chambers
BACK for another year, Rookie Me Central’s 24 to Watch in 2024 returns and this year, the focus is on underage players, being those who are yet to have an AFLW Draft chance. For the list of 2024, it will range between players who are predominantly 2006 (top-age) and 2007-born likely to take the WAFL Women’s by storm or set themselves up for the future.
East Fremantle tall Taya Chambers has plenty of potential for the future, making her way onto the list yet again after another strong season at WAFL Women’s level. Though not the complete player just yet, her explosive speed, booming kick and versatility make her such a damaging player who can impact in multiple ways.

SUMMARY
Chambers has played 22 games over the course of the past two WAFL Women’s seasons, running out for the Sharks in a multitude of positions. Last season she settled into defence, providing run and carry off half-back to average 8.2 disposals, 1.9 marks and 1.7 tackles per game. Though slightly lower numbers than her double bottom-age campaign where she played some time forward, Chambers has the traits that catch the eye and suggest she can take her game to another level.
Settling into the Under 18s side at the national carnival, Chambers played a similar role off half-back, but provided strong offensive play from those three games, and finished with an average of 9.0 disposals and 2.7 marks. Often a receiver who looks to break the lines, Chambers is at her best when she can win the ball and take off, exploding away from her opponents.
A raw talent of sorts, Chambers is ironing out some consistency elements, but with her booming kick to accompany her outstanding athletic traits – being able to compete in the air as well as win it at ground level and burst away – she is one who will being among the most exciting prospects for her state. Now at top-age level, Chambers has the potential to develop her game even further and step it up for both the Sharks and Sandgropers in 2024.
