2024 SANFLW Team of the Week: Round 13

SOUTH Adelaide has dominated the SANFL Women’s Round 13 Team of the Week, with seven players named in the side. The Panthers enjoyed a huge win over the Bays and had three more representatives than any other side with Central District and West Adelaide (four) and Sturt (three) the other winners in Round 13.

For this week’s hypothetical captain, Sturt midfielder Alisha Gepp earned the nod after a massive 26 disposals, 12 tackles, 11 clearances, four inside 50s and the match-winning goal. She is well supported by South Adelaide ruck Soriah Moon who starred against Glenelg with 20 disposals, five marks – three contested – four tackles, 22 hitouts, eight clearances and two inside 50s.

Joining Gepp in this week’s side is partner-in-crime and midfielder Isobel Kuiper, as well as dangerous forward Georgia Swan. The Double Blues’ opponent Norwood had the two representatives, and both slotted into the defensive 50 for this hypothetical side in Sophie Arkun and Sarah Branford.

As for Moon, she has a stack of teammates filling out almost one third of the team. Her midfielders Nikki Nield and Jordann Hickey both earned spots in the squad, while a trio of forwards dominated the front half.

Lucy Northcott booted three goals in her 50th game, while Doreena Hansen (three) and Melissa Anderson (two) were also dominant in front of the big sticks. The other Panther was double bottom-age winger Layla Vizgaudis who was outstanding once again.

Central District’s big win over North Adelaide yielded four players, as captain Shelby Smith and competition leading goalkicker Katelyn Rosenzweig slotted into the centre and centre half-forward yet again. Joining them this week were forward Tessa Doumanis and Under 16s talent Tara Lord. Roosters defender Kristi Harvey was the sole North Adelaide prospect despite a tough afternoon in the backline.

The return of Sarah Campbell for her first game since 2022 resulted in the forward kicking three goals and making it into the forward pocket, while young defender Emily Mableson and experienced midfielders Zoe Venning and Iilish Ross also found their places in the side.

Woodville-West Torrens still had two representatives despite the defeat to Norwood, with ruck Leah Cutting the backup to Moon for this week, while Eagles skipper Annie Falkenberg was named at centre half-back. The remaining player in the 24-strong squad was Glenelg midfielder Jo Miller who had a tough day out in a heavy loss.
