2025 SANFLW Team of the Week: Round 3

FIVE players from both Woodville-West Torrens and Sturt headlined our Round 3 SANFL Women’s Team of the Week in what was a tough round to decide midfielders, while scoring was at a premium. South Adelaide (four) and Norwood (three) were the other winners, while West Adelaide (three) and Glenelg (two) were the best of the losing sides.

Sturt onballer Isobel Kuiper was handed the captaincy for Round 3 after an enormous midfield performance in the absence of some key teammates. She racked up 36 disposals, 16 tackles, 13 clearances and four inside 50s in the win over Glenelg. She is supported by opposition gun midfielder Jessica Bates who had 27 disposals, 13 tackles, 10 clearances, four inside 50s and three rebound 50s in the same game.

Kuiper has plenty of teammates in the Team of the Week, with the Double Blues making up half of the forwardline. Georgia Swan, Georgia King and Zara Walsh were all influential in attack for Sturt to earn spots in the side, while the ultra-reliable Alex Ballard was a rock in defence. The other Bays player in the Team of the Week is the ever-consistent Ellie Kellock.

Woodville-West Torrens enjoyed a third straight win and had five players in the side as well. Top-age AFLW Draft prospect Imogen Trengove kicked three third quarter goals in a dominant performance, named inside 50 for the team while inside midfielders Poppy Waterford and Christina Leuzzi earned spots as well. Leuzzi was pushed out to a wing due to the strength on the inside, while tall defender Zahlia Niemann was named at full-back and ruck Leah Cutting scored a place on the bench.

South Adelaide ruck duo Soriah Moon and Taya Maxwell both earned starting spots when combining for 40 disposals, 43 hitouts and 18 clearances, placed in the ruck and centre half-forward positions. Teah Charlton was named beside Maxwell at half-forward, while experienced midfielder Caitlin Couch earned a well deserved spot on the bench.

Despite going down to the Panthers, three West Adelaide players featured in our Team of the Week with defender-midfielder Emily Mableson slotting into half-back, Emma Kilpatrick named on her familiar wing, and Zoe Venning securing a place on the bench.

Breaking through for a maiden win in the 2025 season, Norwood had a pair of defenders in the Team of the Week. Wing-turned-back Sarah Branford had a terrific performance in the victory over the Redlegs, while Emily Bartsch was named in the back pocket, and Shai Hiscock slotted into the interchange.

Completing the 24-player squad were individual representatives from North Adelaide and Central District with Julia Clark named for her work through the middle, while Bulldog Miyu Endersby went to her usual spot at centre half-back despite mostly playing through the ruck in Round 3. Her teammate Dakota Williams was one of three emergences alongside Rooster Djimila Totham and Bays midfielder Asha Dufour.
