2025 SANFLW Team of the Week: Round 10

TOP two sides Woodville-West Torrens and South Adelaide have contributed a league-high four representatives in our Round 10 SANFL Women’s Team of the Week in what was an even spread across the board. Each of the eight clubs have multiple players in the side, with a pair of State Academy members leading the way.

In fine form of late, Sturt top-ager Monique Bessen earned the captaincy for Round 10 after another huge performance. The midfielder-forward picked up 24 disposals, five marks (one contested), six tackles, six clearances, six inside 50s and kicked two goals, while even contesting in the ruck and having a couple of hitouts.

Fellow State Academy member, Glenelg bottom-ager Georgie Fielder earned the vice-captaincy with 27 disposals, three marks, four tackles, five clearances and four inside 50s. She teamed up with star onballer Jess Bates (30 disposals, five marks, 13 tackles, eight clearances, two inside 50s and two rebound 50s) through the middle, while the versatile Georgia Swan and full-forward Amy Brooks-Birve were Sturt’s other representatives.

South Adelaide had the equal-most representatives for Round 10 with an eighth straight win, headlined once more by ruck Soriah Moon (20 disposals, 25 hitouts and eight clearances) getting the nod ahead of Eagles’ Leah Cutting (13 disposals, 40 hitouts) who was also one of four players from her side. Other Panthers in the team were midfielder Caitlin Couch who was busy around the clinches, and forward duo Shae Archbold (three goals) and Emily Brockhurst (two).

Woodville-West Torrens also had a trio of teenagers joining Cutting in the side with Klaudia O’Neill kicking a couple of goals up forward, while midfield pairing Imogen Trengove and Lucy Moore combined for 50 disposals, 23 tackles and 17 clearances in the win over North Adelaide. The Roosters contributed two defenders to the side in Ella Metcalfe (15 disposals, 11 marks and six rebound 50s) and forward-turned-back Polly Turner (16 disposals, four marks and six rebound 50s) in respective back pockets.

The other winning side in Round 10 was West Adelaide with skipper Madi Russell anchored at full-back after a strong performance in her 50th game. Midfield duo Hannah Button and Zoe Venning were the other Bloods in the side.

West Adelaide edged past Norwood by a point, with the Redlegs also accumulating three representatives in the side with contested marking players, Georgie Jaques, Kiana Lee and Jade Halfpenny all shining despite the loss. The trio took 18 marks between them, six of which were contested.

Rounding out the 24-strong squad are a trio of Bulldogs with young defender/ruck Miyu Endersby named at centre half-back alongside regular Team of the Week back, Madison Lane. Her rebounding partner in crime Georgia Madigan also made it into the team on the interchange.

A defender, midfielder and forward slotted into the three emergency spots for Round 10, with Jaslynne Smith (South Adelaide), Djimila Totham (North Adelaide) and Lucy Waye (West Adelaide) chosen for this week.
