Summary
India Lehman is a nimble small forward with clean hands and a high work rate, who can also push up and play through the midfield as she did in her top-age year. Now an over-ager, the NSW-ACT talent earned an AFLW Draft Combine invite, and looms as a point of difference in that pool given her goal sense and clean hands at ground level.
Over-age small forward-midfielder India Lehman earned an AFLW Draft Combine invite off the back of six goals in eight games for the Murray Bushrangers, and a spot with NSW-ACT at the 2022 AFLW Under 18 Championships. Lehman is a clever forward with smart game and goal nous when inside 50. In prior years, Lehman has played further up the field, but due to her 163cm size, she is better suited to a small forward role at senior levels.
Lehman can always add further defensive elements to her game, but she has the offensive ones, particularly around goal down pat. Though needing to improve her consistency from game to game, Lehman showed in her Round 1 game against Bendigo Pioneers, she is capable of hitting the scoreboard multiple times, slotting four goals from eight touches. Then later in the season, Lehman spent more time up the ground again, as indicated in a lift in disposal numbers for her final NAB League Girls game, a 19-disposal haul against Northern Territory.
It is likely that Lehman earned an AFLW Draft Combine invite off the back of known form for the NSW-ACT pool, having clean hands at ground level, a high work rate and footy smarts to be able to slot into multiple positions. She has the capacity to fit into the midfield rotation - particularly on the outside, and though not overly athletic, covers the ground really well.
Going forward, Lehman is a readymade small an AFLW club might look to in order to slot into a program, and play a variety of roles. She has the experience coming through multiple Academies and pathways, and therefore has been able to adapt to a number of challenges. Only managed the game for NSW-ACT but has runs on the board.
FUN FACT:
India Lehman averaged almost a goal a game at NAB League Girls level, earning a spot in the NSW-ACT team to take on the combined Tasmanian-Northern Territorian Allies outfit.
