SNAPSHOT: “One of the more naturally gifted prospects, Greenwood has plenty of talent and upside for the future.”

A career footballer, Lucy Greenwood stepped onto the footy field from a very young age, beginning at Auskick and moving through the pathways as one usually does, to the point where she represented her state at the national championships and earned a State Draft Combine invite.

Greenwood progressed from Auskick through to the Coolbinia Bombers in 2017 at age 10, where she got her first taste of community football. By 2021, she had already notched up 64 games for the side, moving through the various age groups in the Metro Central competition. That same year, she was chose for the Under 17 Championships at age 14, which indicated just how highly touted she was at that stage.

The East Perth prospect made her Rogers Cup debut and played through 11 matches, named in the best eight times, while also donning the black and gold once more at the National Development Championships as a bottom-ager.

A third straight year of Under 16s Championships action following, booting three goals across two games as a top-ager in that national carnival, while also playing another 14 Rogers Cup matches for East Perth. The Royals focused on looking after their younger players, so Greenwood had to wait until 2024 to make her debut.

The young gun exploded onto the League scene, winning her side’s goalkicking and club best and fairest, which set her up perfectly for her top-age campaign. She also showed glimpses in patches up forward for the Sangropers in a side that did not get a stack of looks inside 50 in what was a tough campaign for the state.

However in 2025, Western Australia split its results 2-2 and were unlucky in the two defeats. Greenwood had an inconsistent carnival to be fair, and her WAFLW season yielded some further potential, but an injury interruption resulted in a lack of continuity and therefore a form drop off.

Greenwood is up there with some of the most talented players in the draft crop, and while consistency was an issue in 2025, her form through her double bottom-age and bottom-age campaigns showed she has the potential to take her game to another level.

STRENGTHS:

+ Footy IQ
+ Agility
+ Skills
+ Marking
+ Goal sense
+ Upside

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Endurance
- Consistency
- Strength

One of those players who has a nice mix of footballing and athletic traits, Greenwood is well rounded in that sense. She can impact in the air, at ground level or with ball in hand, and realistically it is just her endurance and consistency that is holding her back from really taking games by the scruff of the neck. When she does impact, Greenwood is one of those highlight reel-worthy players.

From a footballing sense, Greenwood has the smarts and the game sense to know where and when to be in a position to find the ball, and once she has the ball, uses it exceptionally well. A nice user by hand or foot, Greenwood is not afraid to bite off those 45-kicks and open the game up through the corridor, or break an ankle or two sidestepping an opponent and charging down the field.

Greenwood began her senior journey as a forward, but has spent time on a wing and through the middle, and as it stands, a high half-forward position might be best because of her ability to get into dangerous positions then nail passes going forward. Her adaptability in a wide variety of roles has been very good, and while she is not a high-volume accumulator by any means, that is put down to said endurance rather than her understanding of the match.

She is a natural match-winner and one that teammates can rely on with ball in hand. Greenwood represented the All-Stars - showing she is not too far outside the top 30 or so - and while the rest of her year certainly had its ups and downs, Greenwood just screams a talent that if everything clicks could be a great value pickup.

As already mentioned, her endurance is the main question mark. She impacts in spurts and that influences her consistency. Playing mostly forward for the Sandgropers, Greenwood was thrust into the midfield to find more of the ball at the national championships, and while it did lift her output, she was still a little quieter than a player of her talent would be at those national championships.

On top of the endurance, the other little knock is her strength, because at 163cm, Greenwood is on the smaller side and she is not a big body even though her defensive pressure is usually quite high. Across both seasons, Greenwood has averaged between three to five tackles per game, which is about right for a player you would rather be getting first to the ball than second.

Of all the 46 State Draft Combine invitees, Greenwood is comfortably in the top five or so for natural talent, and on pure ability should be taken in the AFLW Draft. The sole hesitation will be the consistency aspect, but if everything clicks, then the small forward/midfielder can be a terrific asset and a player who can provide plenty of highlights, particularly when she gets goalside.

DRAFT RANGE: 40-60

SUMMARY:

Lucy Greenwood is a player who would not look out of place in the top 30 or so on her best performances, it is just closing the gap between that best and worst, and developing those other aspects of her game. A supremely naturally gifted prospect, the upside is there, and if a team takes a chance on her, she could end up being a shrewd selection.
