U19 World Cup Day 12 wrap – Semi-Finalists set

DAY 12 at the Under 19 World Cup saw the completion of the Super 6s stage and the semi-finalists locked in. The tournament will now have a pre planned day off before the semi-finals tomorrow.

Group 1

Bangladesh end campaign on a high

Despite the frustrations of not going on to make the semi finals after toping their first group, Bangladesh has finished its tournament on a high, defeating the UAE by five wickets.

After restricting the UAE to 9/69 from their 20 overs, the Bangladeshis only needed just over nine overs to get the job done, despite losing five wickets in that time frame.

Shorna Akter (38) scored over half of Bangladesh’s total, while Rabeya picked up three wickets and Marufa Akter picked up two wickets. Meanwhile for the UAE, Indhuja Nandakumar and Samaira Dharnidharka both picked up two wickets.

Group 2

England tune up for semis with demolition job

England have warmed up for the semi-finals with a very comfortable 95-run win over the West Indies to end their Super 6s campaign. After the English posted a massive 4/179 from their 20 overs, the West Indians could only manage 8/84 off theirs in reply.

A stellar 56 from Grace Scrivens (which included five fours and two sixes) was the backbone of the English innings, before Ellie Anderson ripped through the West Indian line up, taking five wickers. Alexa Stonehouse also picked up two wickets. Ashmini Munisar and Djenaba Joseph were shining lights for the West Indies on a tough afternoon, with Munisar picking up two wickets and Joseph making 44 not out with the bat.
