First Aussie W Squad of the summer drops with no Lanning

WITH the Australian summer just around the corner, the Australian Women have announced their squad for their first series of the summer, against the West Indies next month.

The Australian squad is the same as the squad that won the Ashes in England earlier this year, with Megan Schutt coming back into the side after missing the series against Ireland.

However, Grace Harris is only set to play the T20 portion of the series, while Alana King is only set to play the One Day Internationals half of this series.

The big name still missing from the Australian line up though is Meg Lanning, with doctors deeming her not ready to return to the field yet.

After missing both the Ashes and the series against Ireland, Lanning’s return to the cricket field is likely to come at domestic level, either with Victoria or the Melbourne Stars.

“Meg is progressing well but remains unavailable for competitive cricket,” Australian Women’s Team Doctor Dr Pip Inge said in a statement.

“No date has been set for Meg’s return to play, however, we anticipate a gradual return through domestic cricket.”

“CA medical staff will continue to work closely with Meg and an update on her availability will be provided in due course.”

The series between Australia and the West Indies gets underway with a T20 at North Sydney Oval on October 1.
