2023/24 WNCL Weekly Watch: Edition 2

WEEK two of the 2023/24 WNCL season may have only had the one game, but it was a very positive one game if you are a fan of Western Australia.

Western Australia faced Victoria in the second match of their double header, and much like the first time around it was another comfortable win to the Western Australians.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Victorians fell into its regular trap of not batting at a quick enough pace, and losing too many wickets regularly.

Meg Lanning top scored with 35 before the Victorians were bowled out for 164, but six of her team mates could not even make a double figure score.

Alana King was the main weapon with the ball for the Western Australians, taking 4/32 from her almost nine overs, which included two maidens. Zoe Britcliffe and Amy Edgar both picked up two wickets.

There were plenty of maidens bowled by the Western Australian bowlers, with a total of seven maidens bowled by five bowlers.

In reply, Maddy Darke was just too hard to stop, whacking 76 not out and combining for a 109 run partnership with Lisa Griffith to help steer the Western Australians home. Griffith also had a great innings with the bat, making 45 not out. Kim Garth was the only Victorian bowler to pick up a wicket.

There are only a few matches left in the first half of the season, before all the players head off to their WBBL clubs for the WBBL season, which begins on October 19.
