Australia Squad for India series revealed

FRESH off a strong series against the West Indies, the first women’s touring squad for the 2023/24 summer of cricket has been revealed.

The Australians have named a 12-player squad for their series against India in the subcontinent, which is set to take place over the Christmas/New Year period.

The multi-format series will be opened by a standalone Test match in Mumbai from December 21-24, followed by a trio of One-Day fixtures and as many T20s.

There are two fresh faces in the squad compared to the most recent group which took on the West Indies.

The first inclusion is young quick Lauren Cheatle. After a few years full of injuries, Cheatle is finally back in the Australian set up.

Joining her in the squad is Heather Graham. After struggling to get consistent game time at international level, this series is the perfect chance for Graham to make a statement about why she should have a more permanent place in the team.

After Meg Lanning’s retirement last week, no permanent captain has been named for this or any future series. Interim skipper Alyssa Healy or interim vice-captain Tahlia McGrath are the natural successors, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

The series between Australia and India will be a multi format series, with all three formats featuring in this series. This includes one test, which will be the first test between the two teams in India in almost 40 years.
