Another Mooney masterclass helps Perth Scorch Sydney

THE Perth Scorchers have moved to the top of the ladder after a big 61 run win over the Sydney Sixers in yesterday’s sole WBBL match.

After making a whopping 6/189, the Scorchers bowled the Sixers out for 128 with three balls still remaining in their innings.

The Scorchers did have a bit of a wobbly start to their innings, but once the partnership at the crease was Beth Mooney and Natalie Sciver-Brunt, things really got going for the visitors.

Amy Jones and Mooney helped continue the pile on later in the innings, to help the Scorchers reach their big score.

Mooney was by far the top scorer for those in orange, making 91 not out.

On the other side of the equation Ash Gardner and Ellyse Perry picked up two wickets each, while Perry also picked up a run out.

In the chase, the wickets just kept coming regularly for the Scorchers. The Sixers struggled to put partnerships together of anything more than at most about 20 runs.

Perry’s 40 was the pinnacle of a batting performance from the Sixers, as many batter struggled to even make it to 10 runs. This was alongside a pretty high extras tally from the Scorchers of 14.

Meanwhile for the Scorchers Chloe Ainsworth, Amy Edgar and Alana King all picked up two wickets each.

The Scorchers are sticking around in Sydney for a game against the Thunder tomorrow, while the Sixers have another home game tomorrow, this time against the Strikers.
