Rain does not stop the Irish winning again

A rain delay was no barrier for the Irish, who overnight went 4-0 up in their T20 series with Zimbabwe after winning the fourth match of the series by nine wickets.

After the match was reduced to eight overs per side, Zimbabwe posted 5/65 before Ireland reached the target on the penultimate ball of its innings.

Zimbabwe lost its first wicket after two overs with only seven runs on the board, and that slow start ultimately went on to be costly.

The hosts did triple their run rate in the next two overs, but then the scoring slowed down again and ultimately saw them finish their innings with a run rate of about eight an over. Top scorer for the hosts was Kelis Ndhlovu with 17, while wicketkeeper Chiedza Dhururu made 14.

Meanwhile Ireland had three individual wicket takers, with Georgina Dempsey, Cara Murray and Laura Delany picking up a wicket each. Amy Hunter also had a busy day in the field, involved in two run outs.

Ireland went at a quicker pace to begin their innings, making 34 off the first four overs before losing what would ultimate be its one and only wicket.

This made the back end of the innings easier for the Irish, and although they cut things fine, they still reached the target with a ball to spare.

Orla Prendergast was ultimately the one to get Ireland over the line with a match winning six to see her finish on 27 not out. She was ably assisted by Gaby Lewis who made 30 not out, while Hunter finished on 19 before she was dismissed.

Meanwhile for Zimbabwe Lindokuhle Mabhero was the only one to pick up a wicket.

The last match of the series and the whole tour will be taking place tomorrow.
