Delight for Delhi as strong run continues

DELHI has continued its winning ways in 2024, this time defeating the Gujarat Giants by 25 wickets overnight. After the Capitals posted 8/163, the Giants could only manage 8/138.

The Capitals made a pretty quick fire start to their innings, going at more than nine runs an over. The partnerships themselves were not anything out of the ordinary, but the Capitals were still able to maintain a solid pace, and although things slowed down through the middle overs, that early pace helped them post a really competitive score.

Much of the Capitals’ runs came at the top of the order, with Meg Lanning making 55 and Alice Capsey, 27. Lanning’s innings also consisted of seven boundaries, while Capsey whacked five of her own.

On the flipside, Meghana Singh was the pick of the Giants’ bowlers, taking half of the wickets that fell. Ash Gardner also got in and amongst the wickets, picking up two of her own.

In stark contrast, the start to Gujarat’s innings can only be described as a disaster, losing its first wicket halfway through the second over with no runs on the board. That bad start truly was a sign of things to come, as the wickets continued to drop at very regular intervals.

The top scoring partnership for the Giants was 32 runs, and that did not come until Gardner and Tanuja Kanwar‘s sixth wicket partnership. Unsurprisingly it was Gardner who topped the run tally for those in orange, with her 40 not out the clear stand out on their batting card. By contrast, most of her team mates were only able to make scores in the mid teens.

Meanwhile for the Capitals, it was Jess Jonassen and Radha Yadav who were the stars with ball in hand, picking up three wickets each.
