2021 Davis Cup Finals preview hub
OVER the past few weeks, Rookie Me Central has previewed each of the six groups, and the 18 teams at the Davis Cup Finals to bring you the best possible previews. Here’s a hub of all our previews:
What might happen after the Group stage?
Eight teams are able to qualify to the knockout stage of the 2021 Davis Cup Finals, with the six Group winners, and the two highest second-placed nations. The winners of Group A and Group B will take on those two second placed sides, whilst the winner Group C will take on the winner of Group F, and the winner of Group D will take on the winner of Group E.
Potential Quarter Finals:
Russia vs. France*
Great Britain vs. Serbia
Italy vs. Croatia
Canada vs. Spain*
Rookie Me Central has tipped that Spain and France will be the additional qualifiers for the final eight given the relative strength of the third team in their respective groups. Of the quarter finals, Canada up against Spain is a blockbuster and repeat of last year’s final, though Canada would be stronger this year. Expect them, Italy and Russia to win through to the semis, with Serbia likely to topple Great Britain due to world number one Novak Djokovic‘s strength.
Semi-Finals:
Russia vs. Serbia
Italy vs. Canada
In this blockbuster day, the top two in the world could again lock horns with Djokovic up against Russia’s Daniil Medvedev which is where they could well undo the Serbians, and expect the Russians to bring it home. If Italy was full strength, you would expect them to topple Canada, and they still might, but no Matteo Berrettini means it will be tough for Italy to sweep them in both singles.
Final:
Russia vs. Canada
An absolute outstanding final, with Russia’s top two of Medvedev and Andrey Rublev up against Canadian duo Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov. The Canadians might have the upper hand in the doubles, but the two Russians are in brilliant form, so deserve to take the win.
Predicted Davis Cup Finals winner: Canada
