2022 Rookie Me Central SANFLW Team of the Year squad
THE 2022 Rookie Me Central SANFL Women’s Team of the Year squad is in. A total of 48 players have been selected from those who accrued the most Team of the Week selections throughout the year, with a final 24 to be named next Tuesday night. There was a minimum of six games required to make the squad as well.
All teams have at least five representatives in the squad, with minor premiers North Adelaide and reigning premiers and third placed side Glenelg earning seven apiece. Other finalists, Sturt and South Adelaide have six players in the squad, as do Central District and Woodville-West Torrens. Norwood and West Adelaide recorded the five players each.
Among the players named include a host of State Academy members including AFLW Academy representatives and 2022 AFLW Under 18 All-Australians, North Adelaide’s Hannah Ewings, West Adelaide’s Keeley Kustermann and Woodville-West Torrens’ Shineah Goody. Another All-Australian in Central District’s Georgia McKee, whilst state representatives Charlotte Riggs (central District), Piper Window (Glenelg), Lana Schwerdt (Norwood), Shae Archbold (South Adelaide) and Kiera Mueller (Sturt) made the squad.
Looking at last year’s 2021 Rookie Me Central SANFL Women’s Team of the Year, a total of 13 players are up for contention to make it again, whilst three players – North Adelaide’s Kristi Harvey, Central District’s Shelby Smith and Glenelg’s Tessa Kohn – are bidding to become three-time RM Central Team of the Year representatives. Additionally, Ewings, Kustermann and North Adelaide’s Katelyn Pope are in line to make it for the second time having made it in 2020, but not 2021.
Those players with six or more Team of the Week nominations (13 players) will automatically qualify for the team, whilst the remaining 11 spots will be picked on a combination of overall performance throughout the year, and needs to fill within the team.
