2023 RM Central WAFLW Team of the Year: Full Squad

ROOKIE ME Central’s 48-player WAFL Women’s Team of the Year squad has been announced, with top two sides Claremont and South Fremantle dominating the representative count.

The reigning premier Tigers have double-figure players in the squad, with the Bulldogs only one behind on nine. Third placed East Fremantle and West Perth both have seven players in the squad, with Subiaco and Swan Districts just behind them. Peel Thunder (three) and East Perth (one) round out the full squad.

Three players in the squad received 10 or more Tea of the Week nominations, in Claremont’s Jayme Harken, South Fremantle’s Ariana Hetherington and Peel Thunder’s Ebony Dowson. All three are automatic inclusions in the final term, with any player recording seven or more nominations also automatic inclusions.

That means 10 players have stamped their tickets into the side, with the remaining 14 players to fill out the team in the remaining positions. The final team will be determined by a combination of Team of the Week nominations and overall impact across the competition for a full season. Players must have played a minimum of eight games to qualify for the team.

Of the 48 players, 10 are members of the State Academy, including Subiaco trio Olivia Crane, Eva Popovsky and Madison Dodd, and East Fremantle trio Georgie Cleaver, Anjelique Raison and Zippy Fish. South Fremantle duo Molly O’Hehir and Noa McNaughton, and defenders, Peel Thunder’s Evie Cowcher and Claremont’s Mackenzie Webb.

Just the two current AFL Women’s players made the squad, with Charli Wicksteed and Matilda Dyke both having outstanding seasons before being picked up by Richmond and Essendon respectively.

The final Rookie Me Central Team of the Year featuring 24 players will be announced on Thursday.
