Marinoff finally manages to win top gong
EBONY Marinoff is finally the queen of the AFL Women’s, winning the 2024 AFL Women’s Best and Fairest Award. After being one of the contenders for the award for so many years now, she has finally claimed the award.
She won the award with 23 votes, polling in all bar two games and won from second placed Ash Riddell and third placed Madison Prespakis. In a result that shocked all that were watching, Jasmine Garner did not poll until week five, and only finished equal ninth overall.
It has been a big year for the Crows star, being named co captain of her side for the first time and finishing the year with a competition high average of 30.4 disposals, 12.4 tackles, 26.4 pressure acts and 6.3 inside 50s.
The league Best and Fairest award was not only award Marinoff picked up tonight, with the Crow also earning her seventh All-Australian guernsey and being named the vice- captain alongside the side’s captain Garner.

The Rising Star Award went to young Port Adelaide ruck Matilda Scholz, who continues to grow as one of the most exciting young rucks in the competition. She earned 57 votes, earning five votes from almost every member of the voting panel, and earning four votes from those that did not give her five. She beat team mate Shineah Goody by nine votes, with Amy Gaylor, Lucy Cronin and Beth Schilling rounding out the top five of the voting.
There were a number of other awards given out on the night. The Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award went to Fremantle’s Madeleine Scanlon, the Mark of the year went to Scholz and the Goal of the Year went to Adelaide’s Hannah Munyard.
