ALL FOUR winners in Round 8 of the SANFL Women’s contributed four players in our Team of the Week, in an impressive set of performances. Sturt (three) was the only losing side to pick up more than two representatives, as Central District and Norwood achieved that exact number, while West Adelaide had the one.
Ladder leaders Woodville-West Torrens continued rolling along in season 2025 with an eighth straight win as veteran ruck Leah Cutting was dominant through the middle. The ex-AFLW player had 24 disposals, three marks, six tackles, 44 hitouts, seven clearances, five inside 50s and two rebound 50s in the Eagles’ win over Norwood and was named captain of the hypothetical side.
Her vice captain is tall utility Taya Maxwell who rolled between ruck, midfield and forward, recording 20 disposals, seven marks (one contested), three tackles, 12 hitouts, eight clearances, 10 inside 50s and a goal, of which the majority of her touches came when the heat was on in the first half. Alongside the pair on-ball were Norwood’s Jade Halfpenny (21 disposals, seven tackles and nine clearances) and Eagles’ Christina Leuzzi (25 disposals, nine tackles, five clearances and five inside 50s) who were strong once again.
On the outside is young gun Georgie Fielder who was instrumental during the last quarter in getting Glenelg over the line, while Roosters midfielder Djimila Totham was arguably best on ground for her North Adelaide side and is on the other wing. A damaging half-forward line of two State Academy members in Monique Bessen (24 disposals, four marks, six tackles, seven clearances and five rebound 50s) and Layla Vizgaudis (23 disposals, four marks, four inside 50s and three goals) also made the cut.
In between them is Central District tall forward Katelyn Rosenzweig (13 disposals, five marks, three inside 50s and three goals), while another two three-goal players are deeper inside 50 being Glenelg match-winner Kaitey Whittaker and dangerous South Adelaide forward Doreena Hansen. Rounding out the front six is Woodville-West Torrens’ Imogen Trengove who booted two goals in her side’s Round 8 win.
Looking to defence and a pair of Rooster in Jamie Parish and Laela Ebert were important in keeping the Bloods goalless, while Eagles’ key back Zahlia Niemann clunked six marks from 16 disposals and five rebound 50s. Next to her is Sturt’s Isabella Drew who made the side for a second successive week, while in the back pockets, Ashlee Gould (Norwood) and Ash Dyer-Pietsch (Glenelg) complete the line.
The bench has a range of player roles with Glenelg star Jessica Bates among five state representatives making the last six. Central District forward Lauren Breguet, North Adelaide midfielder Julia Clark and Sturt onballer Isobel Kuiper are a few of them, as is ruck Soriah Moon. Top-age forward Lucy Waye was the Bloods’ sole representative.
Chosen as the three emergencies for the round were Eagles’ Marlie Fiegert, West Adelaide’s Emily Mableson and Glenelg’s Marie Martino.
