Darebin dares to dream in VFLW

DAREBIN has roared back into finals contention after a critical four-point win over Williamstown in Round 12 of the VFL Women’s competition. Aided by Port Melbourne’s heavy defeat to North Melbourne Werribee, the Falcons moved just two points and percentage outside the top six, with eight potential finalists remaining in the season.

DRAFT PROSPECTS

Plenty of draft hopefuls caught the eye in Sandringham’s tight win over Geelong. From the Zebras, tall Abbey Tregellis had 15 disposals, nine tackles and seven clearances, teaming up well with Grace Hodder (18 disposals, five marks, 10 tackles, four clearances and six inside 50s. Ex-Hawk Sophie Locke kicked three of her side’s six goals. Meanwhile for the Cats, over-ager Mekah Morrissy (19 disposals, eight tackles and six clearances continued her form, while Abby Favell, Hayley Peck and Lily Jordan all impressed as well.

North Melbourne forward Renee Tierney slammed home five goals from 20 touches and four marks in the massive victory over Port Melbourne, as Madeline Di Cosmo, Elisabeth Jackson and Alana Barba all had 30-plus disposals. In Williamstown’s defeat to Darebin, Emily Eaves (14 disposals, nine tackles and five clearances) was a shining light.

Carlton mature-ager Summer Hall produced her best performance of the season with 22 disposals, five clearances, seven tackles and five inside 50s, while ex-Cannons skipper Amy Trindade‘s terrific year rolled on alongside plenty of AFLW company, finishing with 20 touches, eight clearances, seven inside 50s and a goal in the massive victory over the Western Bulldogs.

Essendon pocket rocket Ava Jordan was lively in her side’s victory over Box Hill, amassing 21 touches. Meanwhile for the Hawks, Amelie Prosser-Shaw (17 disposals, three marks, three inside 50s and five rebound 50s) and Isla Baldwin (16 disposals, three marks, six tackles, three clearances and three inside 50s) were strong. Forward Olivia Fogarty also hit the scoreboard from 12 touches and three marks.

Finally in Collingwood’s win over Casey, over-ager Tahlia Sanger had another big performance, knocking up 24 disposals, seven marks, nine tackles, three clearances and four inside 50s, as fellow 2006-born talent Charlotte Brewer amassed 22 disposals, four tackles and five inside 50s. Tegan Williams (17 disposals, four marks and five rebound 50s) was steadfast in defence.
