Inaugural Tasmania Devils VFL squad revealed

TASMANIA Devils’ inaugural VFL squad has been announced, featuring 48 players keen to don the iconic bottle green guernsey next year. The headline signings include several former AFL-listed players, along with a host of young local talent from both local reaches and interstate.

Ex-Sydney trio Robbie Fox, Caleb Mitchell, and Cameron Owen make up a large portion of the former AFL flavour, along with recently delisted Essendon forward Jye Menzie, Geordie Payne (North Melbourne), prolific VFL goalkicker Hugh Dixon (Fremantle & West Coast), and Sam Siggins (Adelaide).

Barring Mitchell, the aforementioned group also helps make up a significant home grown aspect to the squad. Youth is another main channel the Devils have gone down, with several graduates of the state’s Coates Talent League region earning their spots on the roster.

Among them are 2025 captain Rylee McHenry and leading goalkicker Jack Miller. The latter represented the Allies this year alongside Lucas Wootton, who earned a state draft combine invite. The same goes for Rory Wright, a Victorian who was deemed unlucky not to be drafted.

Wright was part of the Sandringham Dragons program, where North Hobart export Nathaniel Sulzberger plied his trade as a junior. Another young player to return home is Jack Callinan, a crafty small forward who has already followed in his father’s footsteps with a move to SANFL club Central District.

Among the major interstate signings is 2024 West Australian Under 18 MVP Jaxon Artemis. Fellow Sandgroper Jed Hagan also lands in Tassie after a decorated junior career which briefly saw him take his talent to South Australia, linking with Port Adelaide’s SANFL side.

Dixon’s Southport teammate Nick Williams is another young prospect on the list, via Queensland and the Gold Coast Suns Academy. Nelson Beikoff-Smart and Maddox Iverach came through the same junior pathway, but will now trade the sunshine state for new horizons.

While the 2026 VFL fixture is yet to be released, it will be the first to feature Tasmania in its latest form ahead of the Devils’ AFL entry in 2027. The newly minted squad will resume training after the Christmas break, mentored by head coach Jeromey Webberley.
