Bigger stadium, less neutral games highlight WBBL09 Fixture

THE WBBL09 Fixture has been released with a number of key, different components for fans to get excited about.

Firstly, the season remains at 56 games long plus three finals. That has not changed from last year.

One key thing that has changed is the number of neutral games, which have been a huge factor in fixtures of the past. They have not been totally eliminated, but the number of them has dropped to 10, which is significantly less than the 25 of last year’s fixture.

Another exciting change to the fixture is the number of big stadiums used for home and away matches. The MCG, SCG and Adelaide Oval are all set to host matches on the final weekend of the season, which includes a Melbourne Derby at the MCG and a Sydney Smash at the SCG among the smorgasbord of matches over that weekend.

Many of the normal grounds that get used for WBBL will be used again this season such as North Sydney Oval and the CityPower Centre in Melbourne, but there are a few new grounds being used this season. Instead of heading to Ballarat and Moe, the Melbourne Stars are instead taking games to Casey Fields in Cranbourne and Jubilee Park in Ringwood.

The season is set to kick off on October 19 at North Sydney Oval where the Sixers will host the Stars, and will all culminate in the final in early December.
