2022 Australian Open Scoreboard: Day 2

DAY TWO of the 2022 Australian Open saw more upsets than its predecessor, and some epic five-set and three-set contests in the men’s and women’s draws respectively. At the conclusion of the day, the full first round is complete, with second round matches – Round of 64 – kicking off today.

Despite a scare from young gun Emil Ruusuvuori, ninth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime ensured all the Top 10 seeds survived Round 1, with 21st seed Nikoloz Basilashvili the highest ranked player to lose on day two. He went down to British wildcard Andy Murray for the second time in as many weeks, this time in an epic five-setter. Maxime Cressy continued his good form to upstage compatriot and 22nd seed John Isner in the battle of the big servers, whilst Richard Gasquet toppled his younger compatriot, 29th seed Ugo Humbert. The Australian men had a mixed bag, with Alexei Popyrin, Alex Bolt and Jordan Thompson all bowing out in the opening round, whilst Alex de Minaur, Nick Kyrgios and Christopher O’Connell made it through to the Round of 64.
