OTHER ROUND 11 RESULTS:

Woodville-West Torrens notched up its 10th win of the SANFL Women’s season, keeping Central District goalless for three quarters and coming away with a 33-point win. Controlling the middle with a 58-31 hitout differential and 45-23 clearance differential, the dam wall eventually broke during the second term as the Eagles booted three goals and set up the win in terrible conditions.

In a game that also featured a half-time delay due to lightning in the area, it was the Eagles’ young guns that fired through the middle as Lucy Moore (22 disposals, nine tackles, three clearances and two inside 50s), Maia Freemantle (21 disposals, eight tackles and seven clearances) and Julia Faulkner (15 disposals, seven tackles and six clearances) all got their hands dirty.

Leah Cutting was dominant through the ruck with 41 hitouts, and Christina Leuzzi (18 disposals, 10 clearances and a goal) and Alice Tentye (21 disposals, four clearances and a goal) both hit the scoreboard.

Madison Lane lead all-comers from Central District with 17 disposals and six rebound 50s coming out of the back half, while Lauren Breguet (14 disposals, seven tackles, three clearances and three inside 50s) and Katelyn Rosenzweig were busy in attack. Dakota Williams continued her fine season with another 10 tackles and six clearances from 12 touches in midfield.

Central District hosts North Adelaide at X Convenience Oval the following Saturday June 21, while the Eagles take on West Adelaide to officially lock up a double chance.

In a wet slog at Noarlunga, South Adelaide came away with a hard-fought 14-point win over West Adelaide, kicking both goals in the game in the second half. The Panthers and Bloods saw to plenty of stoppages and just get the ball forward at all costs in a real armwrestle for 75 minutes before majors to Lucy Northcott and then Shae Archbold proved the difference in the 2.4 (16) to 0.2 (2) result.

South Adelaide won the hitouts comprehensively 56-27 and the clearances 32-25, though most of the match was played between the arc with an inside 50 count of 21-8. The advantage for the Panthers largely came from another ridiculous best on ground performance from Soriah Moon who racked up 22 disposals, seven tackles, 44 hitouts and 10 clearances in the win, controlling the play around the stoppages.

Caitlin Couch (16 disposals, 16 tackles and six clearances) and Layla Vizgaudis (13 disposals, seven tackles and four clearances) were both very good, while Taya Maxwell and Lauren Clifton also impacted the game throughout the four quarters.

The smooth-moving Emily Mableson provided poise and class to the Bloods with 19 disposals, six tackles, two clearances and two rebound 50s off half-back, while Hannah Button laid a league-record 24 tackles from her 13 disposals. Ruby Ballard (19 disposals, 11 tackles and six clearances) was phenomenal throughout and Zoe Venning also stood up in some crucial moments.

South Adelaide can lock in a top two spot and potentially deny Norwood a finals spot with a win at Coopers Stadium on Sunday June 22, while West Adelaide need to defeat the Eagles in order to keep their finals hopes alive.

Norwood’s finals hopes received a vital boost with a win over Sturt, keeping the Double Blues to just a single behind and come away with a strong 34-point win. The tough defensive performance from both sides after Norwood gained two early goals saw nothing scored for over 40 minutes before another burst of three majors in the final term resulted in a 5.5 (35) to 0.1 (1) win.

The ball essentially lived in Norwood’s forward 50 with 51 entries to Sturt’s eight, with the Double Blues’ defence incredible all things considered. The link between winning it at the coalface (37-24 clearances in Sturt’s favour) and going inside 50 did not correlate and eventually the weight of numbers won out for the visitors.

Yet again Norwood had such an even team effort with Charlee Brooksby‘s 15 disposals enough to be a team high, with the bottom-ager impressive on a wing and off half-back. Other wing Kiana Lee kicked an important goal and was fierce in the air and at ground level, while the likes of Georgina Birchall off half-back and Sharmaine Crosby in the front half were very good with the usual suspects like Jade Halfpenny.

Sturt midfield pairing Isobel Kuiper (26 disposals, five tackles and 13 clearances) and Georgia Swan (20 disposals, six tackles and seven clearances) were strong around the ball, while the defence lead by Gypsy Schirmer and debutant Zina Hunt tried hard, as did ruck Millie McCarthy did well working behind the ball to provide rebound as well.

Sturt simply must beat Glenelg on June 22 in order to feel a little safer inside the top four now with matches against the Eagles and Roosters to come in the last fortnight. Norwood has a tough gig against South Adelaide in a second grand final rematch, but are back at home in a bid to cause an upset. The Redlegs can take fourth spot with a win and a Double Blues loss.
