Preview | Victorian Women’s Premier 1sts – Round 15

IT is the penultimate round of the 2021/22 Victorian Women’s Premier Firsts season, with some crucial matches coming up this weekend which will likely prove season determining.

Box Hill vs Melbourne
Box Hill City Oval

After last weekend, this game becomes much more interesting than it potentially would have only a few weekends ago.

Box Hill currently sits just outside the top four, and really cannot afford to drop any more games.

Melbourne on the other hand, looked like it was going to go through the season undefeated, but that plan was thwarted at the hands of the Bombers last weekend.

Melbourne will still go into the clash as the overwhelming favourites, but Box Hill will certainly not give up without a fight, especially considering its season is on the line.

Prahran vs Carlton
Toorak Park

It’s the battle of the Blues out at Toorak Park this weekend, when Carlton takes on Prahran.

Carlton is safely in the finals, so the Blues will be ironing out any pre-finals issues they have in the last two home and away matches.

The True Blues, on the other hand, had their finals chances ended at the hands of the Rams last week, so they have absolutely nothing to lose.

Although Carlton will go in as favours, hopefully Prahran can play with enough freedom to make this a tight contest.

Ringwood vs Plenty Valley
Jubilee Park #2

Safe to say that this is a do or die clash for Ringwood. Even though it is against the lowly Plenty Valley, with so few rounds left in the season the Rams cannot afford to lose any more matches.

The fact that Ringwood lines up against the bottom side may relieve pressure, but it still cannot afford to get complacent.

Dandenong vs Essendon Maribyrnong Park
Shepley Oval

This one is potentially the most season defining of them all this weekend. Both these sides are on the bubble of the top four, and will need to keep winning in order to ensure they stay inside said bracket.

Depending on results, EMP could potentially afford to drop this game and not panic, but Dandenong does not have that luxury. With Box Hill and Ringwood right on their tail, they cannot afford to drop this one, or maybe even a game at all.
