India caps off momentous win with cruisey final day

INDIA has sealed a momentous Test match win, downing Australia by eight wickets on the final day of the one off test match. After quickly getting rid of the last few Australian wickets in the morning, that left India plenty of time to get the job done with the bat.

The Australians started the day five wickets down, but it was not long before they started to lose the last half of their wicket bank. In fact, they did not even put on a single run before wicket six fell, and then two fell in as many balls, eight overs later.

They only added 10 more runs after that to finish all out for 261 and lose their last five wickets for 28 runs. It also only gave them a lead of 74 runs heading into the fourth innings.

None of the Australian batters made much of a dint on the final day, with no double-figure scores from any of the bottom five batters.

Meanwhile for India, Sneh Rana and Rajeshwari Gayakwad both picked up two wickets on the final day, while Pooja Vastrakar picked up one.

The fourth innings started perfectly for the Australians, with Kim Garth picking up a wicket on the fourth ball of the innings.

Ash Gardner also picked up a wicket but it was to no vain as the Indians continued to pile on the runs, chasing down their target early in the second session of the day.

Experienced head Smriti Mandhana picked up the majority of the runs with a final tally of 38 not out to her name.

Both sides get a few days break before they move into the One Day International portion of the series, with the first ODI set to take place in Mumbai on December 28.
